Northwest Denver’s funkiest community event is back! Dust off your dancing (and walking) shoes for an evening of food, drinks, music and fun – all directly supporting STRIVE Prep’s scholars.
That’s right, Totally Tennyson is right around the corner! On April 29, 2017 from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. this 70s, 80s and 90s themed street crawl will take attendees up and down Tennyson Street to check out the neighborhood’s amazing local businesses. For $35, you’ll receive a food sample or drink at participating businesses, and best of all – every dollar from tickets purchased on behalf of STRIVE Prep – Excel, Lake, or Sunnyside will go directly to that school.
Last year, STRIVE Prep – Lake was able to use proceeds from the event to purchase supplies for an extension of its Affective Needs (AN) Special Education Center, known as a cooldown room. In the AN Center, scholars and teachers work to support and identify unique social and emotional needs. Having a safe space for scholars with emotional disabilities to refocus and cooldown helps them better maintain their composure in general education settings.
The cooldown room provides one-on-one support for scholars who may be having a difficult time concentrating or engaging in classroom activities. There, they can work to identify what other factors may be contributing to the challenges they’re having in a large group learning environment.
“Outfitting the cooldown room directly benefited all of our scholars because it helps students having a challenging day work through issues while minimizing disruptions in the classroom,” said Principal Susan Morris.
When schools receive extra funds, like those from Totally Tennyson, they are able to further enhance every scholar’s educational experience.
