STRIVE Prep is excited to welcome some new faces to our community of educators next school year. Our hiring team has been hard at work finding talented teachers to support our scholars on their journey to STRIVE for College. Today we are introducing you to one of our community’s newest changemakers.

First up is Rita Whittington, who recently joined our STRIVE Prep – Green Valley Ranch team as a Special Education teacher and will continue on in the 2017-18 school year.

Rita Whittington is a career-changer who recently joined the STRIVE Prep – GVR team as a Special Education teacher.

College: Metropolitan State University of Denver; graduated December 16, 2016!

  • Favorite things about the Denver community: A lot of my family is here and I love getting together with them.  I love the fresh Rocky Mountain air; the weather, and all of the seasons are amazing!
  • What are you looking forward to at STRIVE Prep: Having the opportunity to create a productive learning environment, growing in the field of education, and teaching children in my community.
  • Why she teaches: I am a proud parent of an amazing young man with special needs (my children are 38, 36, 31, and 12). As my child was growing up, I simply wanted to understand more about Special Education, and how I, as a mother, could effectively support him. In the process, I became excited about what I was learning, and the potential to support many more children who have special needs.
  • Fun fact: Before I decided to become a teacher, I attended beauty school and became a licensed Cosmetologist. Now, I make my own hair product and face spritz.
