Adame Montbello
GILBERT ADAME, Director of School-Based Operations

Gilbert Adame was born and raised in El Paso TX. He has been living in Colorado for the past fifteen years. He spent the first part of his career as a firefighter, for the United States Air Force. He served his country for 9 years and is a veteran of Desert Storm. The last 5 years, he was the Technology Manager at Omar D Blair Charter School. He assisted in bringing 21 century learning and technology to the classroom. He is fluent in Spanish. He loves professional sports, especially baseball. He has a passion for coaching competitive baseball. He is 6 month away from his degree in Information Technology Network Security, from University of Phoenix, gadame@striveprep.org.

CHRISTOPHER AMATURO, Seventh Grade World Studies

Mr. Amaturo (“Mr. A”) is originally from Long Island N.Y. Graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh (NY) with a Bachelors degree in History, he moved to Columbus OH to pursue a master’s degree in Education (Integrated Social Studies 7-12). Following the completion of his graduate program in 2011, Mr. A continued west towards Denver CO. Here he spent the last 2012-2013 school year as a substitute teacher for STRIVE-Prep school district. Immensely inspired by his experiences with STRIVE, he is extremely excited to be Montbello’s 7th grade World Studies teacher for the 2013-2014 school year! When not teaching he can be found hiking, biking, or fishing around Colorado, camaturo@striveprep.org.

Amos MBC
TOMI AMOS, Assistant Principal

Ms. Amos is incredibly excited to serve as the founding Assistant Principal at STRIVE Prep – Montbello. Before coming to Strive Prep, Ms. Amos was a Teach for America corps member in New York City, where she taught 7th grade math, reading, writing, and social studies. Ms. Amos graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas with majors in Political Science and International Studies and from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law with her Juris Doctorate degree.  Ms. Amos is currently working towards her Ed.M in Education Leadership at Columbia University.  Aside for her love of learning, Ms. Amos loves cooking, traveling and exploring Colorado, tamos@striveprep.org.

Montbello_Amouzou_Wisdom
WISDOM AMOUZOU, Seventh Grade Pre-Algebra

Mr. Wisdom Amouzou is a native of Lomé, Togo where he was raised until the age of 9. He attended middle school and high school in Aurora, CO and just recently graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelors in Communication. Mr. Wisdom is very excited to join the Montbello community as a Math teacher at Strive Prep. 7th grade scholars can expect the highest of expectations, challenges and, of course, support. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Wisdom can always be found listening to music, playing an instrument or singing a tune. CATHERINE DANCE, Seventh Grade Science

Cate joins STRIVE Montbello with the belief that every student deserves a strong and enjoyable learning environment that will lead towards life long opportunities. A graduate from the University of Oregon Clark Honors College, Cate began her journey into teaching as an Anthropology Teaching Assistant. After, she moved on to teach middle school Science at Atlas Preparatory School in Colorado Springs. Cate has returned to her home city of Denver to work with the motivated and enthusiastic teachers, staff, and students of STRIVE as a 7th grade Science Teacher. In her free time, Ms. Dance enjoys playing sports, spending time with friends and family, and watching movies! cdance@striveprep.org

DelValle Montbello
BRIANNA DELVALLE, Sixth Grade Math

Ms. DelValle believes that math is a way of thinking and an indispensable tool in navigating our world today. She graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in Economics and International Relations. Before becoming a teacher, she spent two years working as a political operative in her home state of Pennsylvania. She moved to Denver a year ago and is excited to spend her second year at STRIVE Montbello. DePippo Montbello
AMANDA DEPIPPO, Sixth Grade World Studies

Amanda DePippo was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She attended Salem State University, a small liberal arts school in Salem, Massachusetts. She graduated with a B.A. in History and Art History. After college, Ms. D. completed a teaching fellowship in Boston which focused on providing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics opportunities for students in low income neighborhoods. This past July, Ms. D. relocated to Denver to teach 6th Grade World Studies at STRIVE. On weekends, Ms. D. is looking forward to exploring beautiful Colorado! adepippo@striveprep.org

Montbello Walker Donaldson
WALKER DONALDSON, Sixth Grade Writing

Walker Donaldson is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He is a 2012 Teach For America corps member. Mr. Donaldson attended the University of Alabama where he majored in political science and history. Mr. Donaldson is thrilled to be working at Strive Prep: Montbello. He has high expectations for his scholars and himself. Scholars will be challenged to work hard. Mr. Donaldson is an avid reader, writer, and student of history. When he is not at school Mr. Donaldson enjoys cycling, climbing, pick up sports, and watching The Alabama Crimson Tide play football. LAURA GUNNING, Sixth Grade Reading

Laura Gunning was born and raised in Seattle, WA and while she loved the nature and outdoor activities that the city offers, she needed some sun. Ms. Gunning moved to Los Angeles and attended University of Southern California (Fight On!). After graduating with a B.A. in Public Relations and Sports Media Studies, Ms. Gunning moved to Denver to teach first grade in Montbello. She joins STRIVE Montbello with the firm belief that through a disciplined and enjoyable learning environment, students will acquire tools to think critically about the world around them. When not teaching, you can find Ms. Gunning curled up on the couch with a good book, skiing, golfing, running or cheering on her favorite sports teams with friends, lgunning@striveprep.org.

KIARA HERRERA, Sixth Grade Science

Kiara Herrera is the 6th grade science teacher. Ms. Herrera grew up in California and is an avid San Francisco sports team fan. She attended Santa Clara University and received a degree in Environmental Science and Spanish Studies, where she also was a member of the track team. After graduating she moved to Denver to serve as a Health Educator in a School-Based Health Clinic as an AmeriCorps member and later joined the Teach For America community after her term. JENNIFER LEE, Seventh Grade Math Advanced Problem Solving

Jenny Lee is originally from the border city of El Paso, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University (Gig’Em Aggies!) with a degree in Middle School Math/Science Education. As an ’09 Teach For America Corps Member, Ms. Lee taught middle school math in Dallas, Texas for four years and earned her Masters of Education Degree from Southern Methodist University. Ms. Lee is currently teaching 7th Grade Math and is proud to be a part of the STRIVE Prep-Montbello team. JEROME LINK, Sixth Grade Reading

Mr. Link is a first year teacher from Kansas City, MO and is very excited to be teaching 6th grade Reading this year! He got his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri this past May and looks forward to getting his Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy someday. STEPHEN LYNCH, Seventh Grade Reading

Stephen Lynch is originally from Providence, Rhode Island. Both of Mr. Lynch’s parents are teachers, and so Mr. Lynch was raised to enjoy the satisfaction of learning. Mr. Lynch earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Providence College. After being accepted into the Teach For America Corps, Mr. Lynch moved to Denver, Colorado. There he hopes to teach all of his students the joy of reading. When he isn’t teaching, Mr. Lynch likes to ride his bicycle, hike in the Rocky Mountains, play the guitar, and read a good book in his favorite chair, slynch@striveprep.org.

Raised in Corpus Cristi, TX but moved to Denver at the age of 7. I have a degree in Criminology. This is my first year at Strive Prep Schools as an office manager and enjoy working with students and love getting to know the families of Strive Prep Students. SARA NEEDHAM, Special Education

Sara Needham graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. She is a 2007 Teach for America Chicago alum, and earned a Masters in Teaching from Dominican University. She moved to Colorado last year, and this is her second year with Strive Prep. Jen Olsen is originally from Massachusetts and is an avid New England Sports fan! After graduating from Keene State, she had many adventures landing her in Colorado. Once settled, she graduated with a master’s degree from Regis University and finally fulfilled her dream of being a teacher. Jen truly believes everyone has a love of reading; they just have to find what genre is their home. She loves everything from comic books to historical documents, romance to Dr. Seuss. COLIN SHAW, Assistant Principal

Mr. Shaw is originally from Indiana. After graduating with honors from West Virginia University with a B.A. in History, Mr. Shaw took over as director of a Middle School after school program for at-risk students in Washington, D.C. After two rewarding years in Washington, Mr. Shaw moved home to Indiana to complete his student teaching. In 2006, Mr. Shaw accepted a 6th Grade Social Studies teaching position in Charleston, South Carolina. He has taught 6th Ancient History and 7th Grade Modern History. Mr. Shaw has a strong belief that every child can achieve in an academic setting through hard work and discipline, cshaw@striveprep.org.

RENEE SWICK, Seventh Grade Writing

Renée Swick-Ziller is a Colorado native, and a first-generation college graduate from the University of Northern Colorado. She majored in English Liberal Arts with a minor in Music, and then returned to the Post-Baccalaureate program to earn her licensure in Secondary Education. Not only is Ms. Swick passionate about reading and writing, but she also believes in the power of creativity through music and words. She studied and plays classical clarinet, piano, and voice. Ms. Swick believes in teaching students to critically and independently think about the world around them while encouraging compassionate citizenship through literacy and the arts, rswick@striveprep.org.

AMANDA TROUTMAN, Interventionist

Amanda Troutman grew up in Papua New Guinea and spent her early adult years living overseas. A recent transplant to Colorado, Ms. Troutman graduated Summa Cum Laude from Dallas Christian College (DCC) with a B.S. in Ministry & Leadership. Ms. Troutman is honored to be the first female scholar from DCC to receive the C.C. Crawford Merit Award. A 2013 Teach for America Corps member, Ms. Troutman co-taught Kindergarten in Nebraska for two years before making the decision to focus on working with exceptional adolescents. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Troutman enjoys running, photography, and mothering her three girls, atroutman@striveprep.org.

JENNIFER TROY, Principal

Jennifer Troy is a Colorado native and is extremely excited to open STRIVE Prep Montbello this year after teaching and training for two years at STRIVE Prep Lake. Prior to moving home, Ms. Troy spent the last five years teaching Middle School Social Studies in the Bronx, NY. While in New York, she became committed to closing the achievement gap, and working to ensure that all children receive a high-quality, standards-based education. While in New York, she developed her passion for culture, traveling, food, history, and beaches. MEGAN WATSON, Special Education

Meg Watson is a 2010 graduate of Western Carolina University where she majored in Special Education with a concentration in Middle Grades Math. Prior to joining the Strive Prep Team in March 2013, Ms. Watson taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Math Special Education at a public charter school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Wright Montbello
JOSHUA WRIGHT, Sixth Grade Math

Josh Wright hails from rural Tennessee and arrived in Colorado this year to join the STRIVE team at Montbello teaching 6th grade math. Mr. Wright attended the University of South Florida and just finished up a year in Boston teaching Culinary Arts at a local community college and 6th grade math with Citizen Schools. Before pursuing a career in education Mr. Wright worked as an executive chef, and brings the same discipline, hustle and high standards he developed in the kitchen into the classroom. When he’s not teaching Mr. Wright can be found fishing a stream, backcountry camping with his dog Ahab, or at home cooking, jwright@striveprep.org.
